Chris Henry & Royal Family Productions, Inc. is a Non-Profit Theatre company whose mission is to make theater as accessible and as enjoyable as television, producing work that is multi-generational, multi-ethnic, and multi-disciplined. The company is comprised of both an Afterschool Drama program and a Mainstage Theatre program. In both programs, the apprenticeship model is embraced, pairing novice performers and crew with professionals allowing for an optimal learning environment.
Mainstage
Royal Family holds a similar philosophy in regards to their Mainstage theatre program. Though auditions are held, anyone willing to commit their time to the productions is included, whether actor or designer, professional or novice. Royal Family’s current project is the remounting of Nobody Suspects A Butterfly, an ensemble piece, written and directed by Chris Henry, featuring seasoned actors, such as Anthony Rapp (RENT), as well as exciting newscomers allowing for an enriching, positive environment for all involved.
Afterschool
Afterschool with Chris Henry takes afterschool drama to the next level. Royal Family productions give students a rare opportunity to develop a fantastic theatrical production complete with lights, music, costumes and multi-media in an Off-Broadway theatre. Master Teacher, Chris Henry, continues the tradition of using theatre to build confidence, self-expression, focus and teamwork. Students choose what role they want to play in the production – we hold no auditions. One student said of Spamalittle (a kid-friendly version of the Broadway hit musical Spamalot), “this is the happiest I’ve been since I was four years old.” John Cariani (Fiddler on the Roof) joined the students for the show, allowing the kids to shine on stage with a seasoned actor.
Royal Family offers scholarships in order to open this opportunity to children of all socio-economic backgrounds, and we are in need of caring individuals to sponsor these students. A 501-C3 organization, all contributions to Royal Family are tax deductible. Click here to donate now.
